Dan’s legal career began in the Cook County Public Defender’s office where he successfully represented clients in cases ranging from misdemeanor traffic matters through first-degree homicide. Dan honed his trial skills in his eight-year stint as a public defender, conducting hundreds of bench and jury trials to verdict. Also during that time, Dan served as a union officer in the Cook County Public Defenders’ Association (AFSCME.Local 3315). In this role, he represented the union in employee contract negotiations.
Dan is also a founding board member of The Jack Cary Scholarship Fund, a scholarship that provides funding for area law students to clerk with the Cook County Public Defender’s Office, with which he remains active today.
Following his work as a public defender, in 2007 Dan began work at a civil rights firm in Chicago where his met his partner at Meyer & Kiss, Louis Meyer. The two founded their firm in 2011.
In addition to his work in civil rights and personal injury cases, Dan practices criminal law in the counties of Winnebago, Lake, Will, DuPage, Kane, Cook and DeKalb.
Dan is also an active member of Chicago’s indie music scene, and plays bass in the local band Puritan Pine.
Dan is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the National Lawyers Guild.
